Links for Parents and Teachers
The internet is full of wonderful resources for parents and teachers. Many of the sites I highlight below are created by parents or teachers to help you better work with the children in your life. Others are message boards where groups of parents and teachers can hold an on-line "discussion" of important issues.
Message Boards
A message board is a webpage where people post a question or comment. Other people (parents/teachers) visit the webpage and post their response, creating an internet dialogue.

Teachers.Net - I visit this site daily! Teachers net feature lots of teacher message boards, based on grade level, subject and special interest topics. They hold weekly early childhood meetings regarding current topics and trends and have many different mailrings to join. If you are a teacher, I highly recommend that you visit this site and see what it has to offer.

Parents Place - Parents and teachers will all find something at this site. There are message boards for parents, parents-to-be, education boards based on grade-level, and craft boards for scrapbooking, cross-stitching and much more!

Early Childhood.com - In addition to message boards, Early Childhood.com includes parenting articles, crafts, on-line shopping, and various links for parents and teachers.

Parent Soup - This site offers many, many different kinds of message boards related to parenting and education. The parent boards range from pre-conception issues to raising a teenager. They also have a message board about "frugal living."
Parenting Sites
Family.com - This Disney-sponsored site features parenting articles that change frequently, activities, kids' recipes, and information on key parenting topics.

KidsSource On-Line - To learn more about education and children's health issues, visit this site. The topics are divided by age groups.

Parent Zone - The sections of this site include health, parenting, finance, sports, and pets.

The Idea Box - I believe this site is created by early childhood teachers, but it is full of wonderful activities that can be used with children at school and home. Included are music and songs, children's activities, games and craft recipes. This should help "cure" the summer blahs.

Parent Net - This site has articles, parenting tips, homework help, and family friendly movie reviews that inform parents about language and violence in current releases.
Classroom Sites
Miss Karla's Home Sweet Home - Miss Karla is a child care provider who has created a page with links that her young ones enjoy visiting. You can also find many craft recipes from this site.

Inside Kindergarten - Addie Gaines created this page to highlight the activities of her all-day, everyday kindergarten class. She shares her schedule, tips for using the internet with young children, and activities from her favorite themes.

Mrs. Griffin's Kindergarten Page - Amy Griffin uses her website to share her classroom routine, activities based on numerous themes, and several internet projects her class has been involved in.

Mrs. Lambright's Kindergarten Class - Carol Lambright's site introduces many projects her class has completed. She has also included "summer assignments" to help kindergarten students keep up during the summer.

Mrs. Magee's Kindergarten Page - Shanna Magee shares her classroom routines in a full day kindergarten program.
Themes and Activities
Mrs. Alphabet - The Mrs. Alphabet site has activities related to effectively teaching the alphabet. Mrs. Alphabet also has a monthly e-mail newsletter sharing letter activities.

Perpetual Preschool - This site shares information on setting up curriculum for preschool and tips for teachers.

Kindergarten Kafe - I love this newsletter that is published every other month. A kindergarten teacher shares activities and sites related to specific themes each edition.

A World of Kindergartens - This site has activities for all kinds of early childhood themes, as well as ideas for the 100th day of school and kindergarten schedules.

Alphabet Soup - Need links and ideas for every letter of the alphabet. This site provides them for you.

The Mailbox Magazine Homepage - Most teachers are familiar with this wonderful magazine. Their website allows you to subscribe to the magazine and order their materials on-line. They also provide sample pages from many of their books for you to download.
Reading and Language Arts
Patricia Cunningham's Home Page - Patricia Cunningham is a leader in the Four Blocks method of teaching reading and writing. If you are not familiar with her program, her site gives information about the program (this is not a reading series to be purchased - it's a teaching method). The program is based on guided reading, making words (spelling), writing workshop, and self-selected reading. Teachers.Net includes two message boards related to the Four Blocks program, as well as a weekly article for teachers implementing the Four Blocks.

Leveled Book List - Teachers who work with beginning readers know how important it is to find books at the correct levels for students. This site includes a list of leveled books.

Leveled Book Database - Another site about leveled books. You can search this database by title, author, Reading Recovery level or grade level.
