ARK's specializes in utilizing bioremediation to allow naturally occurring microorganisms to degrade organic contaminants so that they become innocuous compounds at a commercially viable rate. Although both soil and groundwater at most contaminated sites contain micro-organisms capable of degrading organic contaminants, their levels are generally too low to accomplish degradation at a commercial rate. ARK supplements, augments, and/or enhances naturally occurring microorganisms by applying one or a combination of the following on-site technologies:
- In Situ Bioremediation, treating contaminated soil and groundwater without excavation;
- Advanced Biological Surface Treatment (ABST), treating the surface of excavated, contaminated soil without release of volatile organics into the air or leaching of contaminants into the subsurface soil or groundwater; and
- Bioreactor Treatment Systems, a wide range of microbial systems to treat contaminated water above ground.
Each bioremediation project includes the following:
- Preliminary investigation
- Bioremediation work plan
- Site characterization and technology selection
- Biotreatability design testing
- Systems design
- Corrective Action Plan (CAP)
- Submission of CAP for regulatory review
- Site preparation and systemconstruction/installation
- Biotreatment implementation and monitoring/sampling program
- Quarterly progress reports
- Final reports
